What We Offer
Depression can make even small things feel impossibly heavy.
Depression is not always obvious. Sometimes it looks like staying in bed and pulling away from everyone. Other times, it looks like answering emails, caring for your family, and getting through the day while feeling flat, exhausted, or far away from yourself.
If you are searching for depression therapy in Matthews or Charlotte, NC, you may already have tried to push through it, stay busy, or wait for the heaviness to pass. When that is no longer working, therapy can give you a private, structured place to understand what is happening and begin making meaningful changes.
At Mindful Movements, our therapists look beyond the symptom list. Depression may be connected to trauma, chronic stress, grief, perfectionism, relationship patterns, a major life transition, or changes during pregnancy and postpartum. We use evidence-based approaches - including cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and trauma-informed care - based on your history, needs, and goals.
We offer in-person depression counseling in Matthews and secure telehealth where our clinicians are licensed. Most major insurance plans are accepted, including many ACA marketplace plans.
Is This You?
Depression does not always look like falling apart.
For many of the people we work with, depression is quieter. They are still meeting responsibilities, but everything takes more effort than it used to.

● You move through the day on autopilot and feel emotionally disconnected from your own life.
● Things you used to enjoy feel flat, distant, or not worth the effort.
● You feel exhausted even when you have slept, rested, or tried to slow down.
● Your inner voice has become harsh, critical, or convinced that nothing will change.
● You have trouble concentrating, making decisions, or starting everyday tasks.
You may be a good fit for therapy at Mindful Movements if you:
● You pull away from people because explaining how you feel seems too difficult.
● A loss, divorce, career change, trauma, or transition into parenthood has left you feeling unlike yourself.
● You are still high-functioning on the outside but privately feel numb, hopeless, or overwhelmed.
● You want more than temporary motivation. You want to understand what keeps bringing you back to this place.
You do not have to wait until you are in crisis to ask for help. If depression is affecting your relationships, work, sleep, energy, or ability to feel present, that is enough reason to reach out.
Our Approach
Depression treatment built around the whole picture.
There is no single reason people become depressed, so there is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan. Your therapist will help you identify what is maintaining the depression and choose approaches that fit the way it is showing up in your life.
Trauma-Informed and Somatic Work
Depression affects more than thoughts. It can show up as shutdown, heaviness, disconnection, or a nervous system that feels depleted. Trauma-informed and somatic approaches help you notice what is happening in your body and rebuild a greater sense of safety, awareness, and choice.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Depression can create a cycle of painful thoughts, withdrawal, and less contact with the parts of life that once felt meaningful. CBT helps you recognize that cycle, question patterns that are keeping you stuck, and practice more useful ways of responding.
EMDR for Depression Connected to Trauma
When unresolved trauma, painful memories, or earlier experiences are shaping how you see yourself, EMDR may be incorporated into treatment. EMDR is a structured therapy that can help reduce the emotional intensity of experiences that still feel present, even when they happened long ago.
A Collaborative Treatment Plan
Your therapist will not hand you a generic checklist or expect you to force yourself into positivity. Together, you will establish goals, track what is changing, and adjust the work as you learn more about what your depression needs.
Areas of Focus
Depression support for the way it is showing up in your life.
Our therapists work with a range of depressive symptoms and experiences, including:

● Persistent or recurring depression
● High-functioning depression and emotional numbness
● Depression connected to anxiety, perfectionism, or burnout
● Postpartum and perinatal depression
● Depression following grief, divorce, relocation, or career change
● Depression connected to childhood trauma or other painful experiences
● Low mood during substance use recovery or major behavior change
● Loss of identity, purpose, motivation, or connection
If your symptoms do not fit neatly into one category, that is okay. Your first conversation is an opportunity to talk through what you have been experiencing and determine what kind of support makes sense.
What to Expect
A clear starting point, without pressure to have it all figured out.
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist will learn about your symptoms, history, relationships, current stressors, and what you want to be different. You do not need to arrive with the perfect explanation or a fully formed goal.
Many clients begin with weekly sessions so there is enough consistency to build momentum. As symptoms improve and the work progresses, sessions may move to biweekly. Your therapist will discuss frequency with you and revisit it as your needs change.
