What We Offer
When the Relationship You Built Together Starts to Feel Like Work
Every couple hits stretches that are harder than expected. Some pass on their own. Others settle in — quietly reshaping the dynamic until the distance between two people feels wider than either of them intended.
Couples therapy doesn't mean your relationship is failing. It means you're willing to take an honest look at what's happening and do something about it before the gap gets harder to close.
At Mindful Movements, couples therapy is grounded, practical, and clinically structured — not a space to vent at each other with a therapist present, but a framework for understanding the patterns between you, the histories each of you brought in, and the skills that help couples rebuild connection and trust.
We serve couples in Matthews, Charlotte, Waxhaw, and the greater Charlotte area, with telehealth available across North Carolina and multiple other states.
Is This Right for You?
Relationships We Work With

● The impact of individual or shared trauma on the relationship
● A desire to strengthen a healthy relationship before problems take root
Couples therapy isn't reserved for relationships in crisis. You may benefit if you're experiencing:
● Communication that ends in frustration, shutdown, or the same unresolved argument
● Emotional distance or the feeling you've become more like roommates than partner
● A breach of trust — infidelity, dishonesty, or repeated broken agreements
● Difficulty navigating a major transition together — a new baby, job loss, relocation, or loss
● Differences in parenting, finances, or intimacy that have become ongoing tension
Premarital counseling is also available for partners who want to address potential friction points before they become larger issues.
Areas of Focus
What We Address
Our therapists specialize in several core areas, with clinical depth that goes beyond general counseling. If you're searching for a therapist in Charlotte or Matthews, NC who has specific training in any of the following, you're in the right place.
Communication & Conflict
Most couples aren't struggling because they don't love each other. They're struggling because the way they communicate has stopped working. Therapy helps you understand your own patterns, recognize your partner's, and have difficult conversations without them becoming damaging.
Life Transitions
Parenthood, career change, loss, relocation — shared stress pulls couples apart rather than together. Therapy helps partners navigate change without letting the strain define the relationship.
Emotional Disconnection
Connection erodes gradually, through small moments where one or both partners felt unseen. Therapy helps identify when and how the disconnection began and rebuilds the emotional safety that makes genuine closeness possible.
Trauma's Impact
Individual trauma histories frequently show up inside a partnership in ways neither person fully understands. Our therapists are trained in trauma-informed approaches and know how to hold this alongside the relational work.
Trust & Betrayal
Recovering from infidelity or a significant breach of trust requires more than time and good intentions. Therapy provides a structured process for the hurt partner to be fully heard and for the other to take genuine accountability — and, if both choose it, to begin rebuilding.
Premarital Counseling
Beginning a partnership with a shared understanding of your communication styles, values, and conflict patterns is one of the most useful investments a couple can make.
The Process
What to Expect When You Start Therapy at Mindful Movements
Your first session gives your therapist the opportunity to understand both of you — your relationship history, what brought you in, and what you each hope to get out of the work. Neither partner is the problem. The dynamic between you is what's being examined, and your therapist holds space for both perspectives equally.
Ongoing sessions are typically weekly, 50 to 60 minutes, with shared goals established early and progress tracked over time.
In-person: Our Matthews, NC office serves clients throughout Charlotte, Waxhaw, Weddington, Mint Hill, and Stallings.
Telehealth: Licensed in NC, SC, AZ, VA, FL, and MN. Sessions are HIPAA-compliant, insurance-covered, and require no special software.
